Transport Operators Oppose Lift of Ban on Preaching and Hawking in Vehicles

The Commercial Transport Operators of Ghana have voiced their disappointment. They are unhappy with the government’s decision to suspend a ban on preaching and hawking in moving public transport vehicles.

In a press release dated October 9, 2026, the group called for immediate enforcement of Regulation 141. This regulation is part of the Road Traffic Regulations, 2026 (L.I. 2519). The operators believe enforcing this regulation is essential for passenger safety and comfort.

They stated they would oppose any attempts to suspend the regulation. Preaching and hawking will not be allowed in their vehicles, they emphasized.

The statement read, “We maintain that L.I. 2519 Regulation 141 must be enforced with immediate effect.” The group reiterated its stance despite the government’s recent decision.

This situation arises amid public discussions about enforcing Regulation 141. This regulation prohibits preaching and hawking inside public or commercial vehicles while in motion.

Violators of this regulation may face fines ranging from 10 to 50 penalty units. Offenders could also face imprisonment for up to eight months or both penalties.
