Representative Tom Tiffany, the Republican nominee for Wisconsin governor, reported an emergency. He and his pilot swam to safety after their plane lost power. The incident occurred during a flight back from the La Crosse County Lincoln Day Dinner.
Tiffany shared details on X early Sunday morning. He stated that as they approached Wausau Downtown Airport, the plane lost power. The pilot executed an emergency water landing in Lake Wausau.
After landing, they called 911. As the aircraft began to submerge, they exited and swam to safety. They waited in shallow water until emergency responders arrived by boat.
Emergency personnel transported them to Aspirus Wausau Hospital for care. Tiffany noted that both he and the pilot sustained only minor injuries.
Tiffany is endorsed by U.S. President Donald Trump. He represents Wisconsin’s seventh Congressional District and won the Republican nomination in August. He will face Democratic nominee David Crowley in the November 3 gubernatorial election.
Crowley expressed relief that no one was seriously injured in the incident. He thanked God for their safety and praised the pilot’s heroism during this frightening event.
