Eastern RFA Unveils 2026/27 Season Plan Featuring 64-Club Eastern Cup

The Eastern Regional Football Association (ERFA) will launch its 2026/2027 regional football programme with the Eastern Cup Competition on Saturday, 10 October 2026. The Preliminary Stage will take place on 14 and 18 October. Following this, the Eastern RFA Division Two League will start on Saturday, 24 October 2026. Matches will occur at approved centres throughout the Region.

Sixty-four clubs will participate in the Eastern Cup. They are divided into four geographical Zones and 16 groups of four teams each. Each group will follow a single round-robin format. The top two teams from each group will advance to the Round of 32.

The two finalists of the Eastern Cup will qualify for the National MTN FA Cup, pending GFA requirements. The Division Two League will feature 56 clubs, organized into four Zones with 14 clubs each.

In his goodwill message, ERFA Chairman Mr. Linford Boadu Asamoah emphasized creating competitive opportunities for footballers. He stated that more matches would help players improve their skills and gain exposure along their development pathway.

Young referees will officiate this season’s Eastern Cup matches. The ERFA Executive Council has decided that only referees from the GFA Catch Them Young (CTY) Refereeing Programme will handle these fixtures. This initiative aims to give promising young referees practical experience in competitive settings.

Mr. Asamoah noted that mentoring and performance assessments would support these young referees’ development. He also mentioned broader development plans covering coaching education, club administration, youth and women’s football, fair officiating, and improved competition management.

Additionally, the Eastern RFA plans to enhance digital match filming and live coverage for selected fixtures via Eastern RFA TV and social media platforms. They aim to pursue sponsorships and strategic partnerships as well.

Mr. Asamoah urged clubs, coaches, players, match officials, and supporters to uphold fair play and professionalism throughout the campaign. He stated that they are not just organizing competitions but building an environment for growth within the football community.

The Eastern RFA wishes all clubs, officials, and supporters a successful and peaceful 2026/2027 football season.
