Council of State to Meet with Striking Teachers for Negotiations

The Council of State will meet with pre-tertiary teacher union representatives on Friday, October 9. This meeting aims to address concerns related to their ongoing industrial action.

Scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at the Council’s Secretariat, discussions will focus on teacher promotions, deprived-area allowances, and the Collective Bargaining Agreement with the Ministry of Education.

An invitation from HRM Drolor Rosso Adamtey I stated that this engagement would provide a briefing on the unions’ grievances.

The talks occur as the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department processes promotion records for 52,000 teachers. This process is expected to help verify salary adjustments and pay arrears.

Controller and Accountant-General Kwasi Agyei noted that the Ghana Education Service submitted necessary promotion input forms after processing teachers’ records in the government payroll system.

As of 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 8, all promotions for these teachers had been processed along with their input forms.
