Adjaye Associates Launches New Cultural Exchange Studio in Accra

Adjaye Associates has launched a new studio in Accra. This space serves as a base for the practice and promotes cultural conversations and creative exchange.

The studio enhances the firm’s presence in the city. It also demonstrates a commitment to engaging with the local creative community.

The ground floor is designed for talks, exhibitions, and gatherings. It aims to bring together individuals from various creative disciplines.

This adaptable space can host small workshops or larger public events. The firm intends for its programming to evolve organically over time.

The studio reflects Adjaye Associates’ growing influence in Accra. It emphasizes architecture’s role in fostering public life and cultural exchange.

Designed by David Adjaye, the four-storey building is located in Cantonments. Its notable features include a finned façade and a 26-metre cantilever. This design creates over 1,300 square metres of column-free office space. The building uses rammed earth and low-carbon concrete, showcasing environmental commitment.

It can accommodate up to 180 people. Kofi Bio, chief executive of the Ghana office, noted that studios exist in London, New York, and Accra. They collaborate as one unified practice.

Adjaye Associates is led by Ghanaian-British architect David Adjaye. The Accra studio enables work across Africa and collaboration with local architects and students.

The practice has completed numerous projects both locally and internationally. In Accra, it designed the Bank of Ghana’s headquarters, which houses 25 departments and 2,500 employees. Additionally, it collaborated with the Wish4Life Foundation on an International Children’s Cancer Research Centre in Ghana.
